Storing Canned Food  Item Number: storing-canned-food



Home-canned food should be stored in a cool dark place between 50-70 degrees F.  Storing in temperatures that are higher can lower the quality of the food.

Look for these SIGNS OF SPOILAGE after opening any home-canned food:

  • Cloudy or frothy liquids

  • An "off" color deterioration

  • Slimy texture

  • an odor that does not smell fresh

Any home-canned foods that display any of these signs of spoilage should be discarded immediately.
